August 2021 – Lab summer retreat to celebrate our wonderful students and lab members!

July 2021 – Dr. Momen-Heravi presented at the University of Pennsylvania Perio Conference, sharing some of the latest findings of our lab regarding the role of innate immunity and macrophage signaling in periodontitis and type 2 diabetes.

July 2021 – Our lab in a collaboration with Dr. Alison Taylor received an R21 award from NIH/NIDCR to continue our studies of the genomic and transcriptomic basis of health disparity in head and neck cancer.

July 2021 – Our lab received the AACR-Bayer Innovation Award to develop an exosome-based delivery platform for treatment of lung cancer based on exosomes (lung-targeted safeEXO).

January 2021 – Our group was awarded the AACR-The Mark Foundation for Cancer Research “Science of the Patient” (SOP) Grant to study genomic and transcriptomic changes associated with head and neck cancer in minority populations of Black and Hispanics. March 2020 – The Momen-Heravi Lab is awarded the Translational Therapeutics Accelerator program from Columbia University Irving Medical Center and Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center to develop novel gene editing methods and biological therapeutics for treatment of lung cancer with KRAS mutations.

March 2020 – Dr. Momen-Heravi is Awarded the 2020 Anne D. Haffajee Fellowship from the American Association for Dental Research (AADR). Read the full news here.

September 2019 – Dr. Momen-Heravi attended the Leadership, Engagement, Action Development Program (LEAD)  at the American Academy of Periodontology at Chicago.


September 2019 – Dr. Momen-Heravi visited Cell Signaling Technology (CTS) research laboratory and discussed achieving synergy in industry-academia relationship with CTS team.

 

March 2019 – Our lab awarded the Collaborative and Multi Disciplinary CAMPR Award to develop Exosomes/extracellular vesicles based biomarkers for lung cancer and head and neck cancer for patients undergoing immunotherapy. This a collaborative effort between department of our lab, Department of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Pathology, Systems Biology, Department of Biostatistics in CUIMC.

September 2019 – Dr. Momen-Heravi attended the American Association of Immunologists meeting at UCLA and shared and discussed our recent lab findings regarding the role of immune system in the tumor microenvironment in head and neck cancer with leaders in the field.

June 2019 – Congratulations to Abdul for receiving the Tenenbaum Award for Research Excellence from the Division of Periodontics (Columbia University) for his accomplishments during his Master’s research project in the lab.

 

June 2019 – Dr. Momen-Heravi and Dean Christian Stohler, hosted a dinner at the  IADR/AADR meeting in Vancouver to celebrate the success of the participating Columbia University students and faculty. Mariam Zade ’20, a dental student working in Dr. Momen-Heravi’s lab, received the AADR Bloc Travel Grant to present her poster at the conference.

June 2019 – Dr. Momen-Heravi presented our latest lab research in head and neck cancer at IADR/AADR  meeting and then lead a lunch and learn session on the topic of “RNA-sequencing for periodontal research”.

 

May 2019 – Congratulations to Nadia for receiving the 2019 CDM Summer Research Fellowship to study tumor derived exosomes as biomarkers for immune checkpoint blockade.

March 2019 – Dr. Momen-Heravi is a guest associate editor of Frontiers in Immunology for a special issue on Extracellular Vesicles and Their Role in Immunomodulation and Cancer.

The aim of this Research Topic is to provide a comprehensive overview of the novel discovery in the emerging field of EVs in immunity. We seek submission of Original Research articles, Reviews, Mini-Reviews, Methods, Protocols, Perspective, and Technology Report that address, but not limited to, the following topics:

  1. Role of EVs cross-talk of immune and non-immune cells.
  2. Role of EVs in signaling events in immune cells.
  3. Immunoregulatory effect of tumor-derived EVs.
  4. Role of EVs in cancer immunotherapy.
  5. Role of EVs in inflammation and autoimmune related conditions/diseases.
  6. Novel methods and concepts for studying EVs in immune regulation.
